Kalpana Parakkal

VLJ Parakkal is great to work for. She is kind and respectful of everyone at the Board (her attorneys, management, administrative staff). She empathetically seeks to understand an attorney’s reasoning in their decision, and she does not fuss about the trivial facets of decisions (formatting, how evidence is cited, etc.). She assigns quality ratings fairly, and when there is an opportunity she acknowledges strong decisions and strong work ethics. In her role as a supervisor, she asks her attorneys about their goals and works with them to achieve them. She is firm in performance reviews (as a supervisor must be) but still fair, and the attorney always has the opportunity to make their concerns heard (and she hears them). Working in a job where the VLJ to whom you’re assigned so significantly impacts work satisfaction, I count myself lucky to be on VLJ Parakkal’s team.
